Books by David Haggett

Fascinated by Wildlife

David has always been fascinated by wildlife. When he started collecting butterflies at an early age, his parents insisted that he researched every species he caught. Moving to Singapore when he was 11 years old increased his interest in all aspects of natural history.

Working for banks and IT companies enabled him to travel to far flung places. Where possible he made a point of looking for the wildlife. And buying books about the local animals.

With an opportunity to move back to Singapore for work, David and his family left the UK and have since lived in there, Malaysia and South Africa. In South Africa, he bought a 250 acre game farm complete with over 80 antelope, comprising kudu, impala, wildebeest, blesbok and nyala. A few months later, David bought a pair of giraffe at auction.

Managing the game farm gave David a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the varied wildlife: insects, reptiles, birds and mammals.

While in South Africa, David left the corporate world to focus on consultancy, breeding chameleons and writing books.

In 2010, David and his family left South Africa, spending time in Mexico before returning to live in Malaysia. With regular trips to the jungle and highlands, David has photographed and bred many types of local insect.
